Buisiness Etiquitte in Hong Kong

If you are going to Hong Kong on business any time soon you may want to check out a few of their customs before going. Remember that when you go to another country you are a representation of your own country. So  leave a good impression upon those you come in contact with. This could also make or break any business propsitionsyou go over for too. Here are a few simple “DO’s and Do Not’s” to help you find your way:

*Do be on time. Punctuality is expected and will show respect. Give yourself plenty of time to arrive at your destination, because Hong Kong can be very busy.

*Do Not be loud and obnoxious. Use a quiet respectful tone while speaking.

*Do greet someone, when introduced, with a gentle handshake and a slight bow. This includes men, women and children.

*Do Not kiss, hug, or touch someone beyond the hand shake. Chinese tend to be uncomfortable with the show of body contact, especially with strangers.

* Do use titles of respect such as Mr., and Mrs. Use titles if they are applicable along with the family name.

*Do Not turn down tea, if offered. This would be considered very offensive.  Allow the host to take the first drink though.

Be modest and respectful at all times. Remember an attitude of respect is recognizableworld wide. Bring patience with you, as navigating cultural lines can sometimes be difficult. Don’t be pushy, be understanding.

Overall, be interested in the people you meet and their country. Keep an open mind and you will go fair. People  appreciate an interest in their country and who they are. Happy traveling.
